About Reading SEA Online Editorial Coverage
In 2022, Fotobook DUMMIES Day began the second phase of its Reading Southeast Asia field research, widening its gaze toward four new cities in the region: Bandung, Phnom Penh, Kuala Lumpur, and Singapore.
The 2022 Reading SEA online editorial introduced four photography practitioners and independent publishers: Gideon Kong and Jamie Yeo, the Singapore-based design duo behind Temporary Press, whose practice experiments on Risograph printing on book making; Malaysian artist Minstrel Kuik who explores the inner structure of photography by using artist's books as a medium; Cambodian artist Lim Sokchanlina who investigates on the ideology of landscapes and nations through photography and publishing; and Januar Rianto, director of Indonesian art publishing house Further Reading Press, who plays with various publishing forms from the act of reading.
In 2025, we are sharing four new interviews that circle around two art book fairs in Southeast Asia: the Singapore Art Book Fair, the region’s earliest, and the Kuala Lumpur Art Book Fair, now five years in. We then turn to two artists and bookmakers—Singapore-based Lee Chang Ming and Thai artist Pam Virada—whose practices move from images to paper and into physical space. Shaped by years of slow transformation and reflection, their work invites a lingering gaze.
