Have you ever experienced that-has-been when looking at an image ? Or you turned to another page, noticed that the mysterious synchronicity had flashed through, connecting you and the bookmakers and the image makers from far away?
Fotobook DUMMIES Day has begun our field research about the photobook and self-publishing scene in Southeast Asia since 2019. Bangkok, Manila, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta, Yogyakarta, and Yangon were places they have been to. After two consecutive years of gathering stories from five countries and six cities among the islands in Southeast Asia, we are pleased to announce our latest curated photobook showcase. At SEA Reading Room, we will present all the photobooks we’ve encountered during their field research visits. Joining the latest publications they found from Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bandung and Phnom Penh.
Attention folks! For those who always wanted to read but haven’t had the chance to flip the photobooks in their hands. Starting from Taipei, these photobooks are going to travel by themselves through Kaohsiung and Tainan. We invite you to unfold the book and join the journey together.
Compared to walking in a gallery and receiving images passively as an audience, reading is an intimate as well as straightforward experience. You turn to pages you want to read, stay there, and absorb. At SEA Reading Room, readers can choose from a range of collections to set a new path of unfolding the journey of this exhibition. Fotobook DUMMIES Day
Founded in May, 2018 by Liu Chao-tze and Lin Junye, Fotobook DUMMIES Day is a publishing project which mainly focuses on photographic publications in a manner of “self-publishing”, within the understanding the nature of the concept of “dummy.” Fotobook DUMMIES Day curates self-titled photobook fairs, exhibits, and serial lectures that feature all kinds of unique photobooks across the globe. We want to share what we’ve collected with readers/viewers on the island or abroad.
